Abstract - youth groups in view
This publication comprises a report of a pilot study carried out in the regional police corps of Gelderland-Midden into the implementation of the ‘group crime shortlist’: an instrument developed to enable the police to systematically chart problematic youth groups active in a district or catchment area in a relatively easy manner.
With the help of the shortlist, groups of youngsters that cause problems can be distinguished into irritating, nuisance-causing or criminal youth groups. Inside the methodology, the knowledge that district- or area police have at their disposal is linked to data from various (company-) information systems, resulting in improved knowledge and an information position based on which priorities can be set and a problem-oriented approach formulated
The objective of this pilot was to ascertain both the preconditions for and possible results of successful implementation. The outcomes have been documented in a practice-oriented manual in the shape of a step-by-step plan in which all the relevant stages in the process of information gathering and analysis are described, through the setting of priorities to the formulation of an approach, including the preconditions required. The fourth edition of the report was published in 2007.
